The light that makes everything visible is invisible. It is only on a white surface that its brightness and color become perceptible.
Drawing on an experiment by the scientist Eunice Newton Foote, I observe the light in my garden throughout an entire day and an entire night. A floating white surface in the garden becomes a projection screen for the shifting interplay of sunlight, moonlight, and city lights.
Eunice Newton Foote discovered the greenhouse effect 170 years ago.
During an experiment in her garden, she observed the behavior of CO2 when exposed to light. Her discovery was not taken seriously until ten years ago.
Individual shots are compiled into two time-lapse films that reveal how light is constantly changing—and with it, our perception of the world.
